Intro / aka - Who is Howie Day... and why do we care?
Howie Day is an American singer-songwriter born January 15, 1981 in Bangor, Maine. Unlike most solo performers who perform mainly with just an acoustic guitar, Howie Day uses various foot pedals to enhance his playing and "loop" chords. This "looping effect" allows him to build up a song by playing rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, and even tap on his guitar to produce a drum sound. When the whole process is complete, it sounds as if a full band was on stage. Howie Day also uses this process on his voice, harmonizing with himself. The whole process is done in front of the audience in real time as opposed to pre-recording--a common misconception among audience members seeing Howie Day for the first time. From MySpace:
updates........
Hello out there!
I have gone through a lot of the past couple of years, both personally and professionally, and have taken the last few months to try and sort things out. I can't thank you guys enough for being there for me through everything!!
I am hoping to finish up my album this spring, and in the meantime I wanted to give you guys a little taste of the music, so I have put up a new song "Everyone Loves to Love a Lie".
Also, I'm heading out in mid-February with Jay Clifford to do a few solo acoustic shows. I'll play some new material (as well as some old songs too), and hope that you guys can make it out to one of those. We are only hitting a few markets, but I can't wait to go back to some of my favorite, intimate rooms for what I hope can be amazing nights....
Feb 15th - Schubas - Chicago, IL Feb 18th - Iota - Arlington, VA Feb 19th - Tin Angel - Philadelphia, PA Feb 21st - Joe's Pub - New York, NY NEW! Feb 23rd - Iron Horse - Northampton, MA - Late Show Feb 24th - Paradise Lounge - Boston, MA NEW! Feb 27th - Univ of Rhode Island - Edwards Auditorium NEW! Feb 29th - Hotel Cafe - Los Angeles, CA
Thanks endlessly again to all of you for your kind words and support, and I look forward to seeing you on the road!
Day is presently touring a handful of cities across the United States with Jay Clifford. In addition, www.howieday.com has been redirected to Howie's MySpace page!
I've been recently updating Howie's MySpace page with information that I personally have tried my best to fact check and confirm privately. It's difficult to do so without management providing information in a press release, however, after my creation of the 'Untitled Third Album' page (and subsequent fixing of the track list that a renegade fan decided to add 'Lick My Lips' and 'Girl Next Door' to), the following paragraph was added yesterday:
On February 8th 2008, Howie posted a message to his myspace along with
a new song from the upcoming album, the song, "Everyone Loves To Love A
Lie" is a track not featured on the leaked tracklist, also in the
message Howie stated he was still working on the album and hoped to
finish up sometime in the spring. meaning the leaked tracklist is
either a fake, or simply tracks he recorded in 2006 and 2007 with Kevin
Griffin producing, which may be a scrapped project at this juncture.
The post was anonymous from an IP address associated with this update tracks back to the Reston, Virginia. It's anyone's guess who posted this, however it's well written and I'm inclined to believe every last word of it. (Use of the world 'juncture' and careful positioning of the world 'may' aren't exactly hallmarks of someone vandalizing Wikipedia).
So, is it safe to say that the Stop All the World Now Era is over and it's time to look forward at 2008? Howie's recent activity seems to be saying just that!
2007.01.25 - Howie Day / Jay Clifford - February 15 at Schuba's Tavern
This just in from Phil de la Vega, one of our regularly contributing visitors:
Hi Chris,
Thought
I'd send this to you. I live in Chicago and am on the Schubas mailing
list. Howie's playing Schubas on February 15! I don't know if this is a
full fledged tour, or just one Chicago show, but I thought I'd forward
it to you and let you know that Howie's hitting the road, and soon too,
in a few weeks.
Check out the forwarded message below. He's playing with Jay Clifford.
